Mi sto proprio divertendo con questa serie, quasi quanto mi divertivo quando ero al mare sulla spiaggia!
E mi sto anche divertendo tantissimo giocando con il gesso, gli acrilici, i pastelli: sto scoprendo una nuova libertà di sperimentare e di stratificare il dipinto che con gli acquerelli non esiste...
mi piacciono da morire queste tecniche miste!
I'm really enjoying this series, almost as much as I enjoyed when I was on the beach at sea!
And I'm also having a great time playing with gesso, acrylics, pastels: I am discovering a new freedom to experiment and to stratify the painting, a freedom that watercolors don't give...

Con il gesso acrilico modello le forme che desidero, che siano evocative del soggetto che voglio rappresentare oppure semplicemente che ispirino la mia fantasia.
Utilizzo una spatola, ma anche altri oggetti: un pezzo di plastica (ad esempio una carta di credito scartata), un pettine, coperchi di barattoli... tutto ciò che può servire a creare delle linee e degli ispessimenti nel gesso.
I model the shapes that I wish on the acrylic gesso: sometimes they are evocative of the subject, but often they simply come out from my imagination.
I can use a painting knife, but also other objects: a piece of plastic (such as a discarded credit card), a comb, lids of jars... anything that can create lines and thickening in the gesso.
Le gocce di gesso che ho colato nella stesura del fondo: sono sassi? conchiglie tra la sabbia? voi che altro vedete?
The drops of gesso that I poured on the surface: are they pebbles? shells in the sand? what else do you see?
Mentre il gesso si stava asciugando, ho sparso un po' di sale grosso sulla superficie, che poi ho tolto una volta asciutto: questi segni, una volta colorati e sottolineati con un po' di lavoro di pennino, mi hanno ricordato le concrezioni degli scogli, ma anche miriadi di piccole conchiglie che il mare ha portato a riva...
While the gesso was drying, I poured a bit of salt on the surface, which I removed once dry: these signs, once colored and underlined with a little of nib work, reminded me of the concretions on the reefs, but also a myriad of small shells that the sea has brought ashore...
Sempre il pennino e l'inchiostro bianco alludono alle increspature dell'acqua; invece le texture sullo scoglio derivano dalla iniziale modellazione del gesso, poi accentuate con il colore acrilico e i pastelli ad olio.
Always the nib and the white ink allude to the ripples of the water; instead the textures on the rocks derives from the initial modeling of the gesso, then stressed with acrylic paint and oil pastels.
La spuma dei cavalloni si crea quasi da sola colando l'inchiostro bianco nel blu ancora bagnato: io l'ho aiutato a scorrere soffiandoci sopra attraverso una cannuccia... e questo mi ha veramente fatto sentire ancora di più una bambina che gioca!
I create the foam of the waves pouring the white ink into the blue still wet: I also helped the flowing by blowing on it through a straw... and this really made me feel even more a child who is playing!
Nel cielo ci voleva un bel sole incandescente (oppure è una luna, secondo voi?): inchiostro e pastello bianco mi hanno aiutato...
The sky needed a nice glowing sun (or do you think it is a moon?): ink and a white pastel helped me...
