Tra un Mare di Creta e l'altro ho voluto tentare un esperimento che già da tempo mi frullava per la testa: perché non dipingere con l'acquerello sul legno?
Tra i miei desideri, infatti, ci sarebbe quello di creare delle tavole che possano essere esposte senza cornice e senza vetro (proteggendole naturalmente con la vernice finale), per proporre un modo più moderno e versatile di esporre l'arte, semplicemente appoggiandola ad una mensola o ad un muro.
La difficoltà è che gli acquerelli non sono come gli acrilici: non è possibile dipingere su qualsiasi superficie, ci vuole proprio la carta.
E se ci fosse un prodotto miracoloso che ricrea lo sfondo cartaceo su ogni superficie?
Sul legno, sul vetro, sulla plastica, sul metallo...!!!
E' ciò che promette il Watercolor Ground di Daniel Smith, e io ho voluto metterlo alla prova su una tavoletta di compensato.

Intanto bisogna dire che per coprire la tavoletta ho dovuto passare due mani di Watercolor Ground, e aspettare almeno 24 ore tra una stesura e l'altra: bisogna quindi programmare il lavoro con un po' di anticipo, non è possibile immergersi subito nella pittura!
Aggiungo poi che lavorare su questo fondo non è proprio come lavorare sulla carta: la superficie è meno assorbente e respinge un po' l'acquerello, facendolo scivolare e colare, per cui bisogna esercitare un controllo diverso sul colore.
Però è molto meno idrorepellente che il gesso, e quindi l'effetto ottenuto assomiglia molto di più ad un vero acquerello: è possibile applicare delle tecniche tipiche come l'aspersione dell'acqua sul colore umido, o la mescolanza tra diverse tonalità direttamente sul dipinto, come potete vedere dai dettagli qui sopra.
